The North Toole County Refiners dominated the Valier Panthers on the grid iron in Valier last Friday night, 36-13. Cade Hanson (10) follows the block of Jaden Koon (80) to get around the Panthers’ Brett Stoltz (80). Also pictured are Joshua Kearns (20) and Joe Ramos (45).

The Sunburst Refiners opened their varsity football season with a win, defeating the Valier Panthers 36-13. 

Valier scored on their first possession, but the Refiners answered back on their first possession with a seven-yard run by Cade Hanson. Stanley Jarvis scored on a 43-yard run in the second quarter to put Sunburst up 16-6. The Refiners led the remainder of the game.

The second half saw Hanson throw a 37-yard touchdowns pass to Josh Kearns and then a 53-yard TD pass  to Jarvis to extend the Refiner lead. Jarvis added on a 70-yard run to end the game, giving the Refiners a 36-13 victory.

Jarvis lead the Refiners rushing attack with 135-yards on seven carries. Hanson was 7-13 throwing the ball for 183-yards. Grady Kerfoot came up with two key interceptions for the defense. 

 “Overall we were pretty balanced and I am pleased with our play for the first game,” said head coach Jason Hanson. 

The Refiners host North Star for Homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 12. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
