Soon school-age children will be back in school for another year. There is always a lot to do to get those students ready for the classroom. On this “to do” list is gathering all the school supplies students need.
If your kindergartener through fifth grader needs a little assistance getting all the supplies he or she will need in the classroom, help is on the way, thanks to the Cut Bank Police Department.
This year marks the 5th annual Kids Day at the Park event, which is sponsored by the Cut Bank Police Department and which is all about helping kids get ready for another school year.
This free event will take place this Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Main Street City Park. Officers of the local police department will be handing out backpacks filled with school supplies to students, targeting kindergarteners through fifth graders.
On top of that, they will be providing some safety tips for kids returning to school, offering some fun giveaways and providing free donuts.
“Everyone in the community is welcome,” said Josh Simonds, Assistant Chief of Police. “We are reaching out to kindergarteners through fifth graders for the supplies and backpacks we are handing out, but if there are some older kids that need some help getting supplies, we can help them out too.”
Simonds also noted that this event wouldn’t be possible without all the community sponsors. The backpacks were donated by the Salvation Army and Stockman Bank. School supplies are provided by First Interstate Bank and Edward Jones. Albertsons will also be donating the food being served at the event.
“We couldn’t do this without our great local sponsors,” said Simonds. “We would like to thank them for helping us out.”
“We have increased our numbers this year, so everyone that needs a backpack, should have one,” Simonds said. “We don’t want anyone who needs school supplies to have to go without.”
It will be a fun day for students and their parents on Saturday, Aug. 24. Come join in the Kids Day at the Park event.
