The Sunburst Refiners football team suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday at the hands of Power/Dutton/Brady (PDB), Saturday 41-22.
The first quarter was low scoring, with PDB making the only score to take an 8-0 lead. Sunburst answered in the second quarter when Stanley Jarvis scored on a 10-yard run to close the gap 8-6. PDB answered back with two touchdowns extending their lead. Jarvis and Cade Hanson connected on a 15-yard pass to end the scoring in the first half, with Sunburst trailing 20-14.
The Refiners opened the third quarter recovering an onside kick and then driving the length of the field to score. But the score was called back because of a penalty.
PDB scored three times in the second half before Sunburst struck with a nine-yard Jarvis run. Jaden Koon converted the kick to end the scoring for the game.
Coach Jason Hanson thanked his assistant coach Scott Bye for calling both the offense and the defense in his absence.
“We head into next weekend with another tough match-up with Big Sandy at home on Friday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. It will also be Senior Night for our five seniors,” said Hanson.
