The Sunburst Refiners football team moved to 2-0 on the season, defeating North Star 55-37 last Saturday. The spikers are at home this weekend, hosting Simms on Friday with a 5 p.m. start and Heart Butte on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Sunburst struck first on a 53-yard run by Stanley Jarvis. Jaden Koon kicked the PAT for two points giving Sunburst an 8-0 lead they would not relinquish. Koon followed the Jarvis run with a 60-yard scamper and made the kick to push the advantage to 16-0.

North Star finally got on the board, but Jarvis had another long run of 47 yards to give the Refiners a 24-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

North Star scored first in the second quarter, but quarterback Cade Hanson hit Jarvis with a 50-yard bomb to close the scoring at the half, putting Sunburst up 30-12.

The third quarter was low scoring. Hanson threw a 10-yard pass to Jarvis for the only score.

There were seven touchdowns in the fourth quarter, with Sunburst tallying three to maintain the lead. Jarvis scored first on a 10-yard run, then Hanson threw a 39-yard bomb to Koon. Jarvis ended the scoring with a one-yard plunge.

“We hosted North Star for homecoming on a pleasant Saturday evening. It was really nice to see such a good crowd for our first home game of the season,” said coach Jason Hanson.

Jarvis had a great night scoring, finishing with a total of six touchdowns–four rushing and two receiving. Hanson threw for three TDs and had 117 yards in the air.

“I thought our offensive line did a nice job of blocking and we were able to move the ball on the ground and in the air, defensively we played pretty well, North Star was pretty big up front and we had a little trouble controlling the line late in the game,” said Coach Hanson. “Grady Kerfoot came up big with an interception in the red zone to keep our momentum going in the second half.”

The Refiners are off this coming week and then will play Power/Dutton/Brady in Dutton on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.

The Lady Refiners Sunburst volleyball team lost to Power in three games 25-23, 25-11, 25-11 in last week’s action. No other information was available.
