Without a doubt, the one thing that signifies the true start to the holiday season in Cut Bank is the Parade of Lights and the lighting of the decorations, lights and ornaments on the Glacier County Courthouse lawn. And of course, the last part of that is a social at the Civic Center where Santa Claus “comes to town.”
Those events, which all take place in Cut Bank, on Friday, Nov. 15, are a sure way to kick off the holidays and put you in the Christmas spirit.
The Parade of Lights is a Cut Bank Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored event and they are looking for a whole host of parade entries, including floats, cars and any other “parade-like” items to make the march down Main Street.
Line-up for the parade is at 6 p.m. at Glacier Motors on the west end of Main Street. The actual parade will start at 6:30 p.m. and move east toward the Glacier County Courthouse. Floats can be parked at the football field parking lot so float participants can join the festivities at the Civic Center.
The only restriction regarding the parade for those on the floats, walking beside the floats or just walking in the parade, is they are not allowed to throw candy into the crowd assembled alongside the street. You may hand out candy to people while you are walking, you just cannot throw any.
After the parade, a fun social and gathering will be held at the Joe Meagher Memorial Civic Center. Free coffee, hot apple cider, hot cocoa and cookies will be provided. Santa Claus has also committed to being at the social following the parade at the Civic Center too, so be sure and bring your little ones so they can enjoy a visit with Santa. While at the Civic Center, you can also cast your vote for your favorite float. Prizes will be awarded to the top three float vote getters.
All the lights at the courthouse, as well as the decorations, are funded through the Chamber’s various fundraisers and community donations. We simply could not continue to have this beautiful Christmas lighting display without the continued financial support of this community. Every donation makes a difference, whether it is $5 or $500. We appreciate them all. Any donation to the Christmas Lighting Display over $250 will receive a complimentary plaque with the text of the donor’s choice on it to be displayed at the Courthouse when the lights are up.
To keep the lights and the decorations lit each year, mail your donation to the Cut Bank Chamber, P.O. Box 1243, Cut Bank, MT, 59427. Please mark your check in the memo box “Christmas Lighting Display.”
