Malia and Clint Christiaens and Baby Embrie appreciate all the support from the Golden Triangle area!

Update from Clint and Maria on May 3:  "We are so excited to say Embrie was able to move out of the ICU today! We are now in a cardiac progressive care unit to work on feeding as she continues to heal. We are hoping to be here only a couple more weeks.

We would like to thank everyone again for their thoughtfulness and prayers for Embrie and our family throughout this journey. We certainly would not be where we are today without the continued support."

Clint and Malia Christiaens welcomed a new baby girl on April 22. Embrie was born with a rare congenital heart defect, known as Transposition of the Great Arterties. She was medivaced to Kalispell and then to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colo., where she is receiving treatment. (See latest update at the end of the story)

Clint was allowed to fly with his infant daughter to Colorado while Malia, who could not fly so soon after giving birth, drove there with her parents. Embrie is the granddaughter of Valier’s Scott and Shawna Curry and Jackie and Rod Christiaens. Clint’s folks drove ahead to meet him and to help until the Currys arrived with Malia.

Embrie underwent her first surgery on April 24 and was improving at press time. She is able to take nutrition orally and is breathing on her own. Embrie underwent a second surgery on Monday, April 27, and according to Malia, doctors are keeping an extra close eye on her now “to make sure her heart figures out how to do it's job again since everything got switched.”

For the most part, Clint and Malia cannot both be with Embrie at the same time, so they have had to make alternative living arrangements so the one not with her has a place to stay. The Ronald McDonald house is closed due to COVID-19.

Malia is completing her Bachelor’s in Nursing and will graduate in May. Clint is employed as an Electrician’s Assistant, but his position has been affected by COVID-19.
