The Heart Butte Warriors basketball team posted a close loss to 10-C leader Simms on Friday, Feb. 12, at home, 59-52, but followed up by defeating Class B Conrad in Heart Butte, 64-61. The games put Heart Butte into the number-two seed position going into the 10-C District tournament this weekend in Simms.
“We controlled things except at the end of the game,” Coach Kellen Hall said of the Simms game. “They shot 16 free throws, and it became kind of a free throw battle. We just basically beat ourselves.”
Jordan Calf Looking led with 20 points, followed by Cameron Falcon with 10, Dillon Kipp nine, Marcus Rutherford five, Natoye Kipp and Joe Murray three, and Thomas Young Running Crane with two points.
Coach Hall described their next game against Conrad as a “fun game. Everyone got plenty of playing time, and it was a good team effort. It was good to face a B school just ahead of the tournaments so we are prepared with a better defense.”
Cameron Falcon led with 16 points, followed by Jordan Calf Looking with 15, Thomas Young Running Crane 11, Joe Murray eight, Marcus Rutherford five, Dillon Kipp and Kyle Saetern three, Natoye Kipp two, and Wyatt Whitcomb with a point.
This week the Warriors begin the first round of games at the 10c District Tournament in Simms, starting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday against Valier. With a win, the Warriors will advance to game 6 at 7 p.m. on Friday against either Sunburst or Power. A loss would put them into game 4 in the loser-out bracket at 12 p.m.
