The Montana Coaches Association (MCA) is pleased to announce that five Montana coaches, including Dell Meuchel, will be inducted into the MCA Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be a part of the 2021 MCA Awards Ceremony (in conjunction with the MCA Coaches Clinic), on Thursday, July 29, in Great Falls at the CM Russell High School Auditorium.
In addition to Meuchel, other inductees are: Cindy Farmer, Hardin; Larry Henderson, Scobey, Les Meyer, Fairfield; and George Nelson, Roberts.
Thirty-seven years of Dell Meuchel’s 39 years in Montana high school coaching were spent coaching student athletes at Cut Bank High School. As a valued assistant coach, Meuchel played a major role in the success of the Wolves football and wrestling programs. As assistant wrestling coach for 11 years, he was a part of six division championships and two state championships. For 28 years he serving as defensive coordinator for the Wolves football team, winning 12 conference championships and three state championships.
For Cut Bank High School the success continued as Coach Meuchel coached 34 years with the Cut Bank track and field program. For 15 years he was an assistant boys’ coach as they captured three district or divisional championships and one state championship. As a girls’ assistant his Lady Wolves won 11 district or division championships and two state championships.
Coach Meuchel was the head girls track and field coach from 1991 until he retired in 2013. In 2002 he added head boys’ track and field coach to his resume.
As head girls’ track & field coach Dell’s teams tallied 10 district or division championships. four times they earned a trophy at the state track meet and in 2010 the Wolves won the Class B Girls State Championship.
A 44-year member of the MCA, Meuchel has been honored with nominations for the Class B Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year five times and was selected Coach of the Year by his peers in 1995 and 2010.
