The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to provide an update on the proposal to construct the shared-use path in Cut Bank. The project begins near where the existing path at Anna Jeffries School intersects Montana Secondary Highway 213 and extends east to Nyhagen Road; the path extends along the south side of Nyhagen Road for approximately 0.7 miles to just west of the sports complex; the path then turns south for approximately 0.5 miles and ends at Old Kevin Highway.
Proposed work includes approximately 1.5 miles of non-motorized shared-use path including grading, gravel, asphalt surfacing, drainage improvements, fencing, signing, striping and revegetation.
The purpose of the project is to provide a shared-use path to safely route users to and from the sports complex, the Glacier County Historical Museum, adjacent properties, and area schools. The shared-use path is compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards and will provide access for all.
Design work is underway, and we are nearing the right-of-way phase and will begin contacting landowners regarding easements for the new path. New easements are anticipated along the section between 6th Avenue and Old Kevin Highway. Minor utility impacts are anticipated. This right-of-way phase will continue into 2021.
The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2022, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding.
The project is funded with Federal Highway Administration Transportation Alternatives funds, Glacier County and Cut Bank Trails, Inc. local matching funds.
An important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering with the community. The Montana Department of Transportation welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project.
