Mike Hedges will seek a second term on the Cut Bank school board. Hedges submitted his filing paperwork to District Clerk Linsey Milender last week. Also filing for the local school board was Robert Winkowitsch, said Milender, adding two seats on the board are up for election this year.
Darcy Hibbs, who serves as the board’s Vice Chair, said she will not seek another term. Hibbs is completing her sixth year on the school board.
According to Milender, the deadline to file for one of the two upcoming vacancies is Thursday, March 25 at 4 p.m. If needed, this year’s school election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4. Milender explained if only two candidates file for the open seats–either as declared or write-in candidates–they will be elected by acclamation and no trustee election will be held.
All candidates for school board must meet the following qualifications:
•18 years of age or older
•Citizen of the United States and a registered voter.
•Resident of Montana, Glacier County and lived within the boundaries of School District No. 15 for at least 30 days
To file for election to the school board, candidates must pick up a nomination petition from the school district’s Central Office. The office is easily accessed using the administration doors on the Third Ave. SE side of the high school.
Candidates no longer need to have the petition signed by five voters who reside within the school district boundaries.
