The Shelby girls basketball team got off to a rough start last week, losing to Browning, 66-38; and then to Froid/Medicine Lake, 50-29 and Florence, 61-16 in the Coyote Classic.
The Lady Coyotes played in Browning on Dec. 7. They started slow and couldn’t recover, trailing 35-22 at the half and then losing, 66-38.
Vivi McDermott led the Coyotes with 20 points, Cami Blevins added 13, Taylor Schilling and Adele Lamb had two each, and Delaney Clark had one.
Friday, Dec. 10, the Coyotes played Froid/Medicine Lake in the Coyote Classic, and were without starters Jory Clary and Blevins but fought hard to overcome the adversity. Shelby was down 27-6 at the half but fought back and scored 23 points in the second half.
Shelby was led by McDermott with 13, Lamb added seven, Schilling had four, Clark had three, and Reese Lee finished with two.
The Coyotes faced a tough Florence team on Saturday and struggled through the game. Jory Clary had 10 points for the Coyotes, Lamb chipped in four and McDermott had two.
“We have been up in the air, personnel wise, with injuries and sickness. However, this is a young team that has a lot of upside. We are working them into the right spots. The girls fought hard. There is a lot of basketball to be played,” said head coach Mac McDermott.
Shelby will host Conrad on Friday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. They will travel to Rocky Boy on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game and will play in Fairfield on Monday at 6 p.m.
