The Shelby Coyotes boys basketball team opened the 2021-22 season Thursday with 22 players, and they will again be coached by Tom Reynolds, assisted by Ryan McDermott, and Brennan Hayes.

The Coyotes are looking forward to a competitive season, returning 11 letter winners. Leading the way is senior Rhett Reynolds who was all conference and all state last year. He will be joined by fellow seniors Garett Hansen, Kolby Lohr, Taylor Parsons, and Aidan Torgerson. Trenton Emerson, a returning junior and second team all-conference selection, will be joined by fellow juniors, Bryce Lee, and Tanner Deeble. Sophomores Kyle McDermott, Randon Richman, and Hayden Schilling will join the group.

New to the team will be senior Matteo Padroni, sophomore Bud Richard, and freshmen Brendan Clark, Cade Hadford-Alexander, Paolo Manda, Allan Flores, James Knickerbocker, Mason Lamb, Ethan Finch, Tyler Hansen, Kobe Hooker, and Caden Lane.

Coach Reynolds commented, “Rocky Boy returns everyone from last year, so they will be tough, I look for Fairfield, Cut Bank, Harlem, and Malta to be very competitive this year. There will be three teams sent to the State Class B Tournament this year from the Northern Division.

Shelby will open the season in Browning Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. The Coyotes will also play in the Coyote Classic Dec. 10-11. The JV team will play Missoula Loyola on the Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m. and the varsity will play Froid/Lake at 6 p.m. Saturday Dec. 11 the JV will play Froid/Lake at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity will play Florence at 7:30 p.m.
