The Valier Lady Panthers dropped their final basketball game of 2021 with a 69-48 loss to CJI in Chester. The local cagers sit at 1-1 in conference play and 3-2 overall heading into 2022.

The CJI Hawks took a 14-12 lead after the first quarter despite five early points from Emma Valdez. Valier outscored CJI 14-10 in the second stanza to take a 26-24 lead into the half. The Panthers managed just seven points in the third quarter while CJI exploded for 26 to take a 50-33 lead into the final quarter. Valier scored 15 points in the final eight minutes but the Lady Panthers gave up 19 and dropped the game 69-48.

Loni Orcutt led the team with 14 points followed by Valdez with 11. Kinley Kovatch scored nine points in the loss, Lily CalfRobe added six, Katelyn Lamere scored four and Aubrey Bowers and Hylee Layne scored two points each.

The Lady Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 4 when they host Sunburst. Valier is at home on Jan. 7 when they host Simms, who is undefeated in conference play so far at 3-0. On Jan. 8 Valier will travel to Augusta, who is 2-2 in conference play.
