Lady Coyotes, left to right, Taylor Schilling, Vivi McDermott, Cameron Blevins and Shelbee Correa celebrate a game winning point Thursday night against Conrad.

The Shelby Coyotes volleyball team picked up two conference wins last week, defeating Cut Bank in five games then defeated Conrad in three straight games.

The Coyotes won the battle with the Wolves, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-9, and 15-10. They found themselves trailing two games to one early and then battled back to win the last two games to pick up the conference win.

Shelby had 33 kills in the match, and Cami Blevins picked up 11, and Blair Luly had six. Blevins also had a team high five blocks, while Emma Taylor led the team with 18 digs, and Shelbee Correa added 13. Correa led the team in aces with four, and Taylor dropped in two. Vivi McDermott led the team with 26 assists.

Coach Lexy Fisher stated, “Our girls really pulled together in this match overcoming some injuries and coming back from being down two games to one. It was great to see them really dig deep and come out with a win.  They showed a lot of heart this match.”

On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Coyotes steamrolled the Cowgirls in three straight games, 25-16, 25-14, and 25-13.

Jori Clary smashed 12 kills, and Luly and Blevins each hit eight. Clary had the teams only block of the night. Taylor and Correa led the team in digs again with 14 and 10 respectively. McDermott added 28 assists, and Taylor led the team with four aces.

“Our girls played with a lot of energy right from the beginning which was great to see and something we’ve really been focusing on,” said Fisher. “We were able to get some of our younger girls in this match as well which is really helping us prepare as we begin to close in on the end of our regular season.”

This week the Coyotes travel to Fairfield on Thursday. Sub-varsity games will begin at 4:15 p.m. followed by the varsity. The team will then travel to Bigfork on Saturday for games with a start time of 2 p.m.
