Shelby’s Rhett Reynolds throws down a big dunk during the Coyotes win over Conrad Friday night in Shelby.

The Shelby Coyotes boys basketball team picked up two conference wins last week, pummeling Conrad, 72-19, and beating Rocky Boy on the road, 67-57.

Shelby opened up a quick lead against Conrad, posting a 19-4 first quarter lead, and taking a commanding 43-6 lead into the locker room at half-time.

Shelby let off the gas a little in the second half, but still outscored the Cowboys 29-13. The Shelby defense forced 29 Conrad  turnovers. The Coyotes held Conrad to just two second quarter points and only one fourth quarter point.

Taylor Parsons led the team with 14 points, Trenton Emmerson added 13, Kyle McDermott went 4-for-4 from behind the arc for 12 points. Rhett Reynolds added 11 points and seven steals and Randon Richman scored seven points. Kolby Lohr, Garett Hansen, and Matteo Padronin each had four points and Aiden Torgerson added three.

Saturday the Coyotes matched up with Rocky Boy on the road in an exciting contest. The Coyotes jumped out to a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The offense opened up for both teams in the second quarter, but Shelby outscored Rocky Boy to take a 30-23 lead at the half.

Shelby extended the lead in the second half outscoring Rocky Boy in both quarters to claim the victory.

Reynolds led the scoring charge with 24, Emmerson added 15, followed by Parsons with 14. Richman and Torgerson had five each, McDermott added three, and Lohr had one.

“Against Conrad, I was really pleased with the team effort on both sides of the court. A stat that stands out is our 21 steals as a team. Pressure on the ball makes good things happen for us,” said head coach Tom Reynolds. “Saturday, we had a huge win in Rocky Boy. I was very pleased on how we handled their pressure. We had balanced scoring on the weekend and I thought that Taylor and Trenton not only stepped up their scoring, but also rebounded well.”

The Coyotes are off for the holiday break after playing Fairfield on Monday. They will be back in action Jan. 7 when they host Choteau at 7:30 p.m. On Jan. 8, the Coyotes will travel to Columbia Falls for a 5:30 p.m. game.
