Hannah Monroe, Jazmyn Ramos and Chantz Connelly advanced to the State Wrestling Tournament in Billings last weekend. Monroe earned fourth place in the girls 170 lb. weight class while Ramos and Connelly went 0-2 at the all class event.

Valier’s Hannah Monroe earned a fourth place finish at the State Girls Wrestling Tournament in Billings last weekend. She scored 18 points for the Lady Panthers in the three-day all-class event, which was held at Metra Park.

Monroe, who wrestled at 170 lbs., opened the tournament with a bye and then went on to post a 3-2 record at the state tourney.

Monroe finished the regular season with a 24-10 record. Following the bye, she pinned Leah Esser of Glacier High School in 52 seconds. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Belgrade’s Dakota Carter-Oshoa in an ultimate tie-breaker, 5-4.

Monroe then  lost her semifinal match to KyLee Lindsley, also of Belgrade, by fall in 1:29. Monroe came back to pin Audrey Goodsell of Glacier High School in 1:19 in the consolation semis, advancing to the third-fourth place match. Monroe was pinned by Bylee Kogolshak of Billings Senior in 2:36 to finish with fourth place honors.

The Lady Panthers’ Jazmyn Ramos, whose season record was 3-16, was pinned in both of her matches at the state tournament.   Ramos, wrestling at 120 lbs., lost to Brynn Barker of Red Lodge in 1:45 and then was pinned by Salome Legast of Fergus County High School in 4:06.

Valier’s lone boy wrestler, Chantz Connelly, who was 20-17 going into the tournament, was also pinned twice at the State B/C Wrestling Tournament.

 Connelly, wrestling at 120 lbs., lost to Gavin Nedens of Huntley Project in 1:04 and then was pinned by Conrad’s Thomas King in 1:46.
