The Sunburst Lady Refiners basketball team split a pair of games last weekend. On Friday they defeated Dutton/Brady, 32-20 before losing to Cascade, 42-32, on Saturday.
Sunburst came out strong against Dutton/Brady and shot well, grabbing an 8-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Refiners held a 13-10 lead at the break.
Sunburst outscored Dutton/Brady by two in the third, and then extended their lead by seven more in the fourth to claim their first victory, 32-20.
“I was very happy with how we came out and competed for all 32 minutes,” said head coach Tyler Tharp.
Scoring for Sunburst were Claire Bucklin with 13, followed by Tara Robins 7, Nikki Nau 5, Megan Hout 4, Ella Samsal 2, and Ali Nau with 1.
Saturday on their home court, Sunburst held a slim 11-10 lead after the first quarter and were up 19-17 at the half.
The Refiners went cold in the third quarter, only scoring two points and never recovered, losing 42-32.
Scoring for Sunburst were, Bucklin 14, Robins 7, Megan Hout 6, Nikki Nau 4, and Ella Samsal 1.
Sunburst will be back on the court after the holiday break on Tuesday, Jan. 4 when they travel to Valier. They will host Heart Butte on Jan. 7. Both varsity games are slated to start at 6 p.m.
