The annual election for trustees of the Rural Fire District will be held in the spring of 2022. Candidates may file a Declaration For Nomination with the County Election Administrator. The district is all of Pondera County, except within the incorporated area of the City of Conrad, and the Town of Valier, as well as the Lewis and Clark National Forest.

There is one Trustee position up for election, currently held by Clint Rouns.  Other Trustees currently serving are Shawn Vermulm, William Breding, Jim Destaffany and Ernie Boumans. Trustees each serve for a three-year term.

The filing period for this position opens Dec. 9, 2021, and closes on Feb. 7, 2022, at 5 p.m. If only one candidate files for each position, the election will not be held and the candidates who filed will be elected by acclamation. If no candidates file, the Board of County Commissioners shall appoint a trustee to fill the position.

The Rural Fire District was formed to provide fire protection in all of Pondera County except within the City of Conrad, Town of Valier and the Lewis and Clark National Forest. The trustees manage the affairs of the fire district, including the preparation of the annual budget and contracting for rural fire protection. Taxes are levied to fund the district.
